2016 came to a close like the end of a nightmare we had always managed to pull ourselves out of in a lucid haste. November felt like a bad joke, a taste in one's mouth that would not go away. But when January turned apace and we stared glossy-eyed at the television, or at our shiny iPhone screens, reading and hearing about that Distant Threat on the subway; that our nightmare was no longer a specter or distant threat, but a reality we slammed into full force... We're not very sure many of us knew what to do. How could we have gotten ourselves in a mess of this kind?
We won't speak in abstraction anymore. Donald J. Trump is now our 45th President of the United States. As in the Leader of the Free World. Taking the highest office in the land. Our Commander in Chief, a man with power to control our troops and our missiles in times of warfare. But he also looms large over our bodies. Our feminine bodies, to be exact. We knew from time immemorial that Donald J. Trump was unfit to be our leader, but to hear him defend his "locker room" talk about grabbing women without obtaining their consent, and worse, relegating them to mere objectification, was an affront. A violence, personal affront on us and every woman. That's why we ask you to come forward, and voice your full support for women. All women, of all walks of life. Do not be afraid. Know you are not alone in this. Take our hand, and the hand of another, and remember, this too shall pass.
