Sunday marks the kickoff of the highly anticipated House of the Dragon: Season Two. Childhood companions to tragic foes, will Rhaenyra Targaryen regain the throne from the ministrations of Alicent Hightower? While Rhaenyra’s right to the throne was stolen by her younger brother, Aegon, Alicent’s concern for her family’s safety and past of being manipulated by men makes her actions understandable, even if they’re not morally right.

Cloak and Dagger is all about badass women and House of the Dragon is full of them. Female characters are important in art, providing inspiration and representation, which is why House of the Dragon stands out in providing nuanced women in fantasy, a genre historically lacking in that department.

The head of Team Black; Rhaenyra Targaryen, "The Realm's Delight", "Dragon Queen", and of course the first rightful queen of the Seven Kingdoms, is a fierce mother and political adversary. Her styles are intricate and lushly decorated with red and black dragon details. Rhaenys Targaryen, aunt of Rhaenyra, was similarly denied the throne in the past, and now fights for her niece on the back of Meleys, the Red Queen of Dragons. Baela and Rhaena Targaryen, young nieces of Rhaenyra, also fight with her, Rhaena desperate to claim a dragon after her mother's was stolen.

On the side of the Greens, Alicent Hightower, a queen and former wife to Rhaenyra's father, Viserys, is resisting her former victimization at the hands of her father and her late husband. Now taking charge to put her interests at mind, Alicent's protective nature may spell her family's doom. Her iconic color is green, also sported by her daughter Helaena, a dragon dreamer, blessed or cursed with visions of the near future.

Personally, I'm rooting for team Alicent and Rhaenyra reconciliation. Two powerful women forced apart by societal standards is a timeless and agonizing reality for many, and they both deserve to find happiness. Let's hope the writers bless us with awe-inspiring dragon-backed battles and some sweet moments before the eventual agonizing finale.
