COLOR THEORY: NAVY BLUE, THE SOPHISTICATED YET CASUAL SHADE

COLOR THEORY: NAVY BLUE, THE SOPHISTICATED YET CASUAL SHADE

Navy Blue is one of the most commonly seen colors in clothing due in large part to denim, but what is the history and meaning behind the infinitely popular color?

The name, Navy Blue comes from the use of the color in British Royal Naval uniforms in the 1700s. The color is derived from Indigo dye, which at the time was mainly sourced from India. Indigo dye is also used in the dyeing process of denim.

Navy's history means it usually conveys an air of professionalism, maybe not military level, but there's a seriousness to someone in navy. It can be more upscale or rough depending on fabric choice, but navy is structured, important, and goes well with almost anything. Blue itself is a color associated with calming effects and the deepness of navy furthers that trustworthy feeling. In navy, you are solid, ready to take on anything with a cool head.

Cloak and Dagger has a lot of navy, for your color matching needs or your sense of professionalism!

The American Vintage Vitow Cardigan has been flying out of the store and has abalone buttons for a special flair! The Ivy-V Neck Sweater is slouchy and goes well over a tank top while the Demylee Artemis Cashmere Sweater is more structured and super soft. The Trovata Grant Corduroy Blazer is professional, but hides a colorful inner-lining. We also have plenty of navy wash denim, the Levi's Ribcage Wide Leg, Levi's Ribcage Straight Full, and the Rolla's Studio Flare are all a perfect darker wash for pairing with a complimentary top! Finally we have the gorgeous Ballet Flats in Navy.

Come in and get ready for professional or casual fall looks with our incredible navy selection!
